Cat Window Perches: Why Your Indoor Cat Needs One

Cats are drawn to windows. Whether it's birds, passing pedestrians, or just the ambient activity of an outdoor space, most cats will park themselves at a window given the chance. The problem is that most windows are not set up for cats to use comfortably. A narrow sill means crouching. A sill that doesn't support the cat's weight makes it precarious. Indoor cats live in a fixed environment. Before leaving a cat on a perch, press on it firmly from multiple angles and check that none of the cups slip. Pairing a perch with the right window

South-facing windows get the most sun. East-facing windows get morning sun. If your cat has a preference for warmth, a south or east window is a better starting point than a north-facing one. Birds and squirrels tend to appear near feeders, trees, and bushes — if you have a garden, placing the perch where the cat can see active areas of it gives the perch more entertainment value.
